Volunteer
At Children’s Village Thailand, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can heal, learn, and grow. To make the biggest impact possible, our volunteer opportunities are divided into two distinct tracks based on the age groups and developmental needs of our children.
Whether you are passionate about immersive alternative education or early childhood development and foundational English (TEFL), we have a place for you. Both tracks generally require a minimum commitment of 6 weeks to ensure stability and continuity for the children.
Track 1: Our Pre-school & Nursery (New Track)
Bangkok’s outskirts offer a modern, suburban setting for volunteers looking to teach English to our youngest learners. Located in a comfortable neighborhood with easy access to the city center, this track perfectly blends impactful early childhood social care with the conveniences of modern Thai life. It is an ideal path if you thrive in structured daytime environments and want the bustling energy of a world-class city right at your doorstep.
Bangkok Highlights: During your weekends, the public transit system makes it incredibly easy to venture into downtown Bangkok. You can explore vibrant night markets, world-famous street food, historic landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, modern shopping districts, and an endless array of cultural activities.
Things to take into consideration:
Children’s Village K-12 is suburban, not downtown. Children’s Village Pre-school & Nursery is located on the outer edges of Bangkok. While it has easy access to the city for weekend trips, the immediate neighborhood is a quiet residential area. There are local conveniences nearby, but you are not living in the center of the nightlife or tourist districts. Getting downtown requires a commute by taxi or public transit.
Urban heat and traffic: While you won't deal with the bugs and wildlife of the jungle, the city brings its own environment. The Bangkok outskirts can be loud, crowded, and very hot. Traffic congestion is a daily reality in Thailand's capital, and city smog can be intense. If you prefer fresh air and quiet open spaces, this track might not be the right fit.
Toddler chaos is real: Working with infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers is incredibly rewarding, but it is also exhausting. Expect high energy, loud crying, tantrums, and plenty of messes (including diapers and spilled food). An 8 AM to 4 PM shift with very young children requires immense patience, thick skin, and a lot of physical stamina.
Thai is the primary language used in the school. Few people speak English. This can make you feel lonely at times. We suggest trying to learn some basic Thai words before coming or else communication may be very difficult. First lesson, Children’s Village in Thai is called “Moo Baan Dek”.
Children’s Village does not allow alcohol or tobacco products in the school
Focus: Early Childhood Development, Social Care, & Foundational TEFL
This track is dedicated to our youngest children during their most critical formative years. Based in our early-intervention daycare and nursery facilities, volunteers on this track help provide a joyful, structured, and safe environment for infants, toddlers, and young learners coming from challenging backgrounds.
Ideal For: Students, professionals, and educators in fields like early childhood education, TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), pediatric support, nursing, and social work.
Daily Routine: A structured daytime schedule, typically from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, leaving your evenings free for lesson planning, relaxation, or community connection.
Core Activities:
Early Childhood Care: Assisting staff with daily routines, playtime, and early developmental milestones.
Early Literacy & TEFL: Introducing basic English to young children through play, music, and interactive storytelling.
Social Care: Offering individual attention, emotional support, and a comforting presence to children in crisis care.
The Location: Suburban Bangkok (Nakhom Pathom)
Track 2: Our Primary School (Rural Kanchanaburi)
Focus: Primary School English Education & Community Immersion
This is our core eco-village program, where our primary need is for enthusiastic volunteers to teach English to older children (ages 6 and up). While your main goal is running structured language classes and building conversational confidence, you will do so by completely immersing yourself in our alternative primary school environment. This track beautifully pairs impactful language education with a unique community lifestyle centered on democratic education, self-dependency, and student empowerment.
Primary Need & Skill Set: Best suited for creative mentors, TEFL educators, and independent thinkers. Because you are working with primary-aged school children, your main task is to plan and lead English lessons focused on conversational skills, vocabulary building, and confidence. You'll also naturally reinforce their language skills by leading extracurricular workshops (like art, sports, or gardening) and participating alongside them in the village's daily life.
Daily Routine: An immersive, village-centered lifestyle. Your core hours are anchored around English teaching, but because you live on-site, language practice and mentorship happen naturally both inside and outside the classroom throughout the day.
Rural Isolation: This track offers a tranquil escape surrounded by rolling hills, clean air, and beautiful greenery, though it is further away from major city conveniences and requires a more self-reliant mindset.
The Location: Rural Kanchaburi
Kanchanaburi is home to our core primary school village, offering an immersive, rural experience deep in the heart of Thailand’s stunning natural landscape. This relatively isolated setting provides a peaceful, close-knit eco-village community where volunteers teach English to older children within an alternative, democratic school environment. It is the perfect fit if you want to unplug, disconnect from urban life, and fully integrate into a holistic, nature-focused community lifestyle.
Kanchanaburi Highlights: On your days off, you will be surrounded by some of Thailand's most breathtaking natural and historical wonders. Volunteers can explore the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai, swim in the stunning tiered turquoise pools of Erawan National Park, visit local riverside cafes, or go trekking through lush jungle trails.
Things to take into consideration:
Children’s Village is in a very remote area of Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. It is surrounded by beautiful nature, but there is very little else within walking distance.
While many love the natural surroundings, this comes with many insects and forms of wildlife. If you are not comfortable in the rugged outdoors, the village may not suit you.
Thai is the primary language used in the village. Few people speak English. This can make you feel lonely at times. We suggest trying to learn some basic Thai words before coming or else communication may be very difficult. First lesson, Children’s Village in Thai is called “Moo Baan Dek”.
Children’s Village does not allow alcohol or tobacco products in the village.
VOLUNTEERS MEAN A LOT TO US!
Regardless of the track, volunteers will have the opportunity to:
-Gain hands-on teaching experience in a unique, student-led learning environment
- Support students in developing English communication skills
-Immerse themselves in Thai culture while working with underprivileged youth
Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences. However, we are especially interested in individuals with experience or education in early childhood education, teaching, TEFL/TESOL, childcare, healthcare, or related fields, particularly those comfortable working with children ages 0–12.
That said, over the years we have also been fortunate to receive support from many wonderful volunteers with completely different skill sets. Individuals with experience in areas such as farming, carpentry, gardening, dance, arts, music, and other practical or creative trades may also have opportunities to contribute outside of our traditional teaching roles.
If interested, please complete the questionnaire below. We will review your application and respond as soon as possible.
2026/2027 Update - Grants now available!
As a 501(c)(3) organization, part of our mission is to enrich the lives of U.S. students and volunteers by offering grants that support opportunities to volunteer, intern, or study at the school. These experiences not only provide valuable professional and personal growth, but also foster meaningful cultural exchange, broaden global perspectives, and promote cross-cultural understanding through service abroad.
If you’re interested in volunteering or interning, we are currently accepting applications for grants that cover all expenses—except airfare.
This means that aside from your flight to Thailand, all in-country costs including logistics, travel, meals, lodging and insurance will be fully covered.
This grant is only available to U.S. citizens who can volunteer/intern for minimum a minimum of 6 weeks.
VOLUNTEER FAQ
-
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences.
Individuals with experience in areas such as farming, carpentry, maintenance, gardening, arts, music, and other practical or creative trades may also have opportunities to contribute outside of our traditional teaching roles.
-
While we strongly prefer applicants with a background in education, TEFL certification, or students currently studying in these fields, we also welcome volunteers who can contribute in creative and practical areas such as music, dance, the arts, or other hands-on skills that enrich the learning environment.
A formal teaching qualification is not required to volunteer with us.
Having a TEFL certificate or related experience is a strong advantage, but it is not mandatory. We have worked with many successful volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with skills outside traditional classroom teaching such as carpentry, farming, and other practical trades that can support our broader programs.
Our students have very limited exposure to English, so any consistent interaction in English, both inside and outside the classroom, can have a meaningful impact. We encourage volunteers to use English as much as possible to help create an immersive learning environment.

With the expansion of our programs, Children’s Village Thailand now supports children from infancy all the way through their transition into adulthood. Because our two locations serve completely different age brackets, you can choose the environment that best matches your skills and interests.
Our Pre-school & Nursery (Ages 0 – 6): Located at our suburban Bangkok facility, this program deals primarily with newborns, toddlers, and pre-K children. Volunteers here focus entirely on early childhood care, early developmental milestones, and introductory, play-based English.
Our Primary & High School (Ages 6 – University Age): Located at our rural Kanchanaburi village campus, this program accommodates children from age 6 through high school, and even supports our older students transitioning into university. While volunteers on this track generally spend the most daytime hours interacting with our primary-aged students for foundational English, our older teenagers are fantastic candidates for advanced conversational practice or specialized workshops like photography, art, and creative media.

We divide our volunteers into 3 categories.
1) Long - term. We consider a long term volunteer as anyone that stays 6 weeks or longer. Due to our limited administrative resources, long term volunteers are always given placement preference.
2) Short - term. We consider a short term volunteer as anyone that stays less than 6 weeks. Only around 10 percent of our volunteers are short term.
3) Special visitors - Special visitors are a unique category of volunteer such as a band, dance troupe, puppeteers etc... These are volunteers that normally only come for a one time performance to give a special show for the kids.
Other examples include groups of international students on field trips who would like to visit the school and contribute in a meaningful way, such as helping build a playground, creating a mural, or simply playing games with the children in the spirit of cultural exchange.
-
While most of our volunteers choose to live in our dedicated volunteer accommodations, staying on-site is not mandatory.
Volunteers that do wish to stay in the village are given accommodation, and three meals per day. While we deeply appreciate your desire to volunteer, our resources are extremely limited. Volunteers are asked to cover the cost of their accommodation and food.
For short term volunteers(less than 6 weeks) the cost of accommodation and food is 500thb($15 USD) per day
For long term volunteers(more than 6 weeks) the cost of accommodation and food is 250thb($7.50 USD) per day
For long term volunteers who commit to 3 months or more, the school will cover your food and accommodation
