Activities and Life at Children’s Village Moo Baan Dek

 

In each house of the community at Children’s Village, there are 10-15 children with two to three adults who take care of them just like loving parents.

Daily Schedule at a glance

 

5:30am - Wake up & personal chores
6:00am - Work in the farm
7:30am - Breakfast
9:00am - Lessons
12:00pm - Lunch
1:00pm - Workshops
4:00pm - Free time
5:30pm - Dinner

 

 

This schedule applies to most of the days of the week. However, on Saturday, the community carries out a common activity, whereas Sunday is a free day.

5:30am

At 5.30am, the day begins and the children wake up. They begin to do their personal chores.

6:00am

As Moo Baan Dek incorporates nature into the children's learning, the children tend their vegetable and fruit orchards at 6.00 am.

At 7.30 am, everyone, including children and adults, eat breakfast together at the school�s central canteen.

9:00am

On every weekday, at 9.00am, the students attend lessons until noon

12:00pm

At noon, lunch is served at the central canteen.

1:00pm

At 1.00 pm, the students can choose to attend the vocational and artistic workshops, i.e. batik, ceramic molding, weaving, pottery, woodwork, English, computer literacy, etc, according to his or her own interests. On Friday afternoons, a council meeting is held in the hall where the staff identify the children who have broken the school rules and mete out the appropriate punishment. They also discuss other problems within the community and the possible implementation of new school rules.

4:00pm

At 4.00 pm, the children have free time to go swimming in the River Kwai, farming in the Latya Home Garden, playing soccer, reading, and so on.

5:30pm

At 5.30pm, the children have dinner together with their housemates.
